| A Message from our President Welcome to the Republican Women Leaders of Calvert (RWLC) Website! Formed in 2003, RWLC is an active, vibrant club. We invite all Republican women to join and participate in our club’s activities. Our meetings are informative, educational, politically focused and fun too! Meetings are normally on the first Monday of the month. We have social networking time from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., followed by dinner, guest speaker and business meeting at a local Calvert County restaurant. We have two special “members only” events – an Anniversary Brunch and Christmas Party.
For detailed information on our meeting dates see the “Events” section of our website.
Our meeting discussions include current issues before the Maryland General Assembly such as taxes, voting and ballot security and requiring legal presence for drivers’ licenses; local government issues such as education and the budget; and national issues including supporting our troops, energy and health care. We participate actively by personally writing to our legislators, testifying at legislate public hearings and contacting our representatives on important issues. Participating in the Maryland Federation of Republican (MFRW) Women’s Red Scarf Legislative Day helps our members learn about the legislative process and see our legislators in action. Red Scarf day usually includes a reception or brunch so that members have a chance to meet and network with legislators and Republican women from across the state.
During election years we provide tuition assistance to members who wish to attend the National Federation of Republican Women’s (NFRW) campaign management school.
Our members actively participate in training sessions, board meetings and conventions of the MFRW and the NFRW. RWLC and other Southern Region Clubs hosted the 2008 MFRW Spring Board Meeting in Solomons, Maryland. Three RWLC members were delegates to the 2009 NFRW Convention in Orlando, Florida. Ten RWLC members were delegates to the MFRW Convention in Cambridge, Maryland, in November 2009.
We join other Republican organizations in Calvert County to participate in voter education and community events. In 2008 and 2009, together with other Republican organizations, we formed a team for the Literacy Council’s Adult Spelling Bee called “Bee a Republican” that finished among the finalists at the end of the evening. The past three years the Republican Women of Southern Calvert (RWSC) organized a Republican team for the Relay for Life and members of the RWLC, RWCC, CCRC, and Central Committee all participated in the Relay. RWLC contributed to the Relay and gave a donation to the Fisher House for our injured troops. RWLC continues its role as a community leader by joining other Republican organizations to sponsor joint Candidates’ Forums during election years to provide the public an opportunity to hear the candidates and get answers to their questions prior to casting their votes.
We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.
